Catholic Governors

There are presently twenty-two (22) Catholic Governors. Fourteen (14) are Democrats and eight (8) are Republican. Sixty-three percent (63%) of all Democrat governorships are held by Catholics, while twenty-eight (28%) of all GOP governorships are held by Catholics. Catholic Senators

There are presently twenty-five (25) Catholic Senators. Fifteen (15) are Democrats and ten (10) are Republican. Twenty-five percent (25%) of all Senators are Catholic. There are four new Catholic Senators from the 2004 election which is a net Catholic gain of +1 in the Senate: Vitter (R-LA), Martinez (R-FL), Murkowski (R-AK) & Salazar (D-CO). Catholic Senators retiring in 2004 were: Murkowski (R-AK), Fitzgerald (R-IL) & Breaux (D-LA).

2006 newly elected Catholic Senators are Claire McClaskill (D-MO), and Bob Casey, Jr (D-PA).
