About One Nation Under God Mission We must build a city of God. How do we do this? By being faithful Catholics in the public square. We do this by obtaining a thorough understanding of the principles of Catholic moral and social teaching and sharing this with our Catholic community, by educating Catholic Members of Congress through persistent lobbying and advocacy efforts, and by holding these elected officials accountable. As Catholics we must allow the moral principles of our Catholic faith to inform our decisions and positions and support public policies that reflect a profound respect for human life and dignity. It is our purpose to provide the background information necessary to encourage Catholic citizens to actively engage in the public square. OneNationUnderGod will focus on public policy issues encompassed in protecting the sanctity of life, preserving the sacrament of marriage, and maintaining the Godly heritage in which our nation was founded, assuring that it always remain ONE NATION UNDER GOD. The 111th Congress has over 160 Catholic elected officials serving inthe House or Senate. Half of these, eighty-two, accept campaign donations from groups that support abortion rights, in addition to their established anti-life voting record. What can be done about this? First, Catholic members of Congress must be brought into dialogue with their local ordinary to guarantee a thorough understanding of social teaching of the Church. We must then continue to encourage and monitor these elected officials positions on social moral issues, and thirdly, we must raise awarenss among the larger Catholic community to hold these politicians accountable for any public rejection of Church teaching. Our advocacy efforts include the following:
Catholics make up 24 percent of those who vote in national elections. These 47 million Catholic voters have the power to make our country a better nation, more welcoming to life, more supportive of families, and more effective in its programs to help the poor and marginalized. Both from the Vatican and within the United States, our Vicar and Bishops have been calling Catholics to renew their participation in political life. That participation means, above all, to take the moral principles of the Catholic faith into the public square. This public witness to truth is required by our Church leaders, our Catholic elected officials and by all Catholic citizens if we are to restore our Catholic identity and build a city of God. Together in Christ, Lisa Correnti Founder/Director
