Dear Friend in Faith,
Are pro-abortion Catholic politicians partially responsible for eroding Catholic culture? Has this contributed to Catholic voters dismissing their responsibility to promote a “Culture of Life?”
We believe so.
In Evangelium vitae John Paul II makes clear the constant teaching of the Church, that those who are directly involved in lawmaking bodies have a grave and clear obligation to oppose any law that attacks human life. Catholic politicians cannot claim that their legal toleration of abortion is based on respect for the conscience of others.
In the teaching of Saint Thomas Aquinas, he writes that "human law is law inasmuch as it is in conformity with right reason and thus derives from the eternal law…when a law is contrary to reason, it is called an unjust law; but in this case it ceases to be a law and becomes instead an act of violence."
Pope John Paul II continues, “in the case of an intrinsically unjust law, such as a law permitting abortion or euthanasia, it is therefore never licit to obey it, or to "take part in a propaganda campaign in favour of such a law, or vote for it…abortion and euthanasia are thus crimes which no human law can claim to legitimize. There is no obligation in conscience to obey such laws; instead there is a grave and clear obligation to oppose them by conscientious objection.”
In spite of this teaching many Catholic politicians continue to consider themselves Catholics “in good standing” as they vote for pro-abortion laws and accept thousands of dollars from abortion rights groups.
Over the past decade Catholic politicians have taken millions of dollars from the abortion industry.
Pro-abortion rights House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has accepted nearly a quarter-million dollars - $244,113 to be exact - from groups like NARAL, Planned Parenthood and Emily’s List - Sen. John Kerry ($205,768), Sen. Ted Kennedy ($211,643), Sen. Bob Casey ($327,914) and Sen. Patty Murray ($1.04 million!) These groups reserve campaign donations to only those candidates who will advocate for expanded abortion rights.
President-elect Obama promised Planned Parenthood that one of the first things he would do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA). FOCA will invalidate all state and federal pro-life laws including partial birth abortion and all state parental notification laws. FOCA could also imperil "conscience clauses" that protect hospitals and doctors who refuse to perform abortions leading Catholic hospitals to close or be forced to provide abortions.
The 111th Congress has 26 Catholic Senators and 136 Catholic Representatives. To date, thirty (30) Catholic politicians have co-sponsored FOCA; Senators Kerry, Mikulski, Menendez, Murray and Cantwell and twenty-five (25) Catholic representatives.
We need your help to restore integrity to the Catholic faith community. Join us in respectfully asking our Bishops to shepherd these politicians.
Please sign “Stop Abortion Money to Catholic Politicians” e-petition and help Catholic Advocate and OneNationUnderGod.org – expose the truth about Speaker Pelosi and dozens of other so-called “Catholic” politicians who are accepting money from pro-abortion groups knowing they will support laws that lead to the aborting of millions of babies.
We are asking you to join us in urging the U.S. Bishops to take a strong stand for life by:
1. Requiring all Catholic politicians to cease accepting abortion money – and to return the unused funds already received by their campaigns.
2. Re-emphasizing the principles of Evangelium Vitae as it relates to Catholic politicians acceptance of donations from pro-abortion rights groups and support for abortion policy.
3. Speaking individually to every Catholic politician in Congress so they have a thorough understanding of the consequences of supporting the Freedom of Choice Act – including Canon 915 which says, those "who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to communion.
Will you join us in saying: NO MORE!- NO MORE “Catholic” politicians voting for pro-abortion laws like the Freedom of Choice Act - which would undo the ban on Partial Birth Abortion!
- NO MORE “Catholic” politicians accepting thousands of dollars in campaign cash from abortion providers like Planned Parenthood and NARAL!
- NO MORE calling yourself Catholic if you continue to publicly defy church teachings on abortion.
Help us put a stop to the hypocrisy, lies and - most importantly - the daily killing of thousands of unborn babies by abortion in America.
This is our chance as faithful Catholics to join together and make sure our voices are heard. It is more important than ever for us to use the tools the Catholic Church has given us to persevere. Let’s make an extra effort to nourish ourselves through the sacraments of reconciliation and the Eucharist and continue to transmit authentic Catholic Christian values to the world. Let’s continue to put our trust in God and work to give others hope.
In this year of St. Paul, let us look to him as an example of someone who struggled, was in danger and thrived amidst adversity.
Thank you for signing this petition and helping to defend life.
Together in Christ,

“To claim the right to abortion, infanticide and euthanasia, and to recognize that right in law, means to attribute to human freedom a perverse and evil significance: that of an absolute power over others and against others. This is the death of true freedom: "Truly, truly, I say to you, every one who commits sin is a slave to sin" (Jn 8:34).” --Pope John Paul II, Evangelicum Vitae
